This summer the Junior Guard Safety Aides and the “A” Groups will be going on a dive trip to Catalina Island. There are several trip options available: Friday July 9th, Monday July 12th, Wednesday July 14th, Monday July 19th, Wednesday July 21, Thursday July 29th, Monday August 2nd, Wednesday August 4th. There will be twenty six spots for each trip so sign-ups will be on a first come, first serve basis. This is a hard cut-off from the dive boat captain. We will try to accommodate each individual, but it will be necessary to sign up as soon as possible to ensure that you get on the trip of your choice. Registration for all trips will begin at 12:00 PM on Tuesday July 6th. It will be an electronic sign up available through the JG website. Each person is allowed to sign up for one trip only and you may only sign up for yourself. Again each boat has a maximum capacity of Twenty Six. If you fail to attend the trip you signed up for, you will not be able to attend another trip.
Departure time will be at 7:00 A.M. from the 22nd Street Landing in San Pedro, so give yourself adequate time to get there. Each guard going on the trip will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the landing. The boat, The Magician, will depart at 7:00 A.M. Do not be late! The boat will return at 5:30 P.M.
In order to be in compliance with current covid-19 protocols, the charter boat captain has asked all passengers to have a face mask. The face mask is to remain on unless in the water or eating. All surfaces onboard are cleaned with bleach multiple times a day and everyone’s temperature will be taken before boarding.
Equipment needed: face mask, dive mask, fins, and snorkel. A wet suit and weight belt are not mandatory, but may make the trip more enjoyable. If you need to borrow a wetsuit, you need to check it out with your instructor. There will be a limited amount of dive masks and snorkels available, but if you want to ensure use of snorkeling equipment, bring your own. You do not need to wear your junior guard uniform on this trip.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided on the boat. Students with special dietary requirements are encouraged to bring snacks and/or meals for the trip.
If you have any questions, please call Junior Guards at 714-374-1501.
