“A” and Safety Aideses Dive Trip to Catalina

On Monday July 18th, July 25th, and August 1st the Junior Guard Safety Aides and the “A” Groups will be going on a dive trip to Catalina Island.  There will be a limited number of spots for each trip so sign-ups will be on a first come, first serve basis.  We will try to accommodate each individual, but it will be necessary to sign up as soon as possible to ensure that you get on the trip of your choice.  Registration for all trips will begin at 7:30 AM at Junior Guard Headquarters on Thursday, July 7th.  Each person is allowed to sign up for one trip only and you may only sign up for yourself.  If you fail to attend the trip you signed up for you will not be able to attend another trip.

Departure time will be at 7:00 A.M. from the 22nd Street Landing in San Pedro, so give yourself adequate time to get there.  Each guard going on the trip will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the landing.  The boat, Great Escape Charters, will depart at 7:00 A.M.  Do not be late!  The boat will return at 6:00 P.M.

Equipment needed: mask, fins, and snorkel.  A wet suit and weight belt are not mandatory, but may make the trip more enjoyable.  If you need to borrow a wetsuit, you need to check it out with your instructor on the Friday before your trip.  There will be a limited amount of masks and snorkels available, but if you want to ensure use of snorkeling equipment, bring your own.  You do not need to wear your junior guard uniform on this trip.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided on the boat.  The ship’s galley will also be open and serving food during the entire trip if you wish to purchase more snacks.

If you have any questions, please call Greg Luttrell or Kyley Morita at 375-5176

Directions to the boat dock
From Huntington Beach, head North on PCH to 2nd Street, turn left on 2nd Street by the In N Out and proceed 1.7 miles through Belmont and merge to the left onto Livingston Blvd.  Livingston will turn into Ocean Blvd. and go through all of downtown Long Beach towards San Pedro.  Once through Long Beach you will continue straight and Ocean Blvd. will turn into the 47 Freeway.  Take the 47 South to San Pedro.  You will travel straight over 5 miles as you go over a series of bridges; the largest and last is named the Vincent Thomas Bridge. As you are going over the Vincent Thomas Bridge, merge right and take the Harbor Blvd exit.  Stay in the right lane and turn right on Harbor Blvd. Travel approximately 1.7 miles to 22nd Street.  Turn right on 22nd Street and travel about a ¼ mile and until you see a large sign on the left that marks the 22nd Street Landing which is your final destination.  There is a small parking lot just beyond the building where you may drop off the kids, or you can park across the street in the larger parking lot.  Instructors will be waiting there.  The name of the boat is The Great Escape.  The address for the boat at the 22nd Street Landing is 141 W. 22nd

San Onofre (Camp Pendleton) Surf Trip

On Wednesday, August 10th, the Junior Guard A’s, Safety Aides, and Captains are participating in a surf trip to San Onofre (Camp Pendleton).  All Junior Guards will need to report at 7:45 A.M. at Junior Guard Headquarters.

All guards should bring a large sack lunch and warm clothing.  Junior Guards are not required to wear Junior Guard uniforms on this special surf day.  A few drinks will be provided, but bring enough food and drink to last throughout the day.  They may also bring their surfboards, boogie boards and fins.  We will load the boards onto a large truck and take down the equipment, but it is at your own risk.  If you are late you may not have your board loaded due to the limited amount of space.  Junior Guard surfboards will be available for checkout in 30-minute intervals.

The busses will return to Junior Guards at 4:30 P.M.

If you have any questions, please contact Greg Luttrell or Kyley Morita at 375-5176.

2011 Annual Junior Guard Dance

Our annual Junior Guard dance is coming up! The dance will be held Friday, August 12th, 2011 at the city gym, 1600 Palm Avenue. The gym is located on the corner of 17th and Palm Avenue in Huntington Beach. The dance will start at 7:00 pm and end promptly at 10:00 pm. The C’s need to be picked up at approximately 9:15 pm; the B’s at 9:30 pm; and the A’s at 10:00 pm. The cost of admission is $5.00.  The $5.00 fee will also allow the junior guards to have a soft drink and entry into our raffle.

The annual dance is very popular among the junior guards.  The theme of the dance this year is “NERDS!”.  Junior guards should come dressed in their best nerd-gear, think Napoleon Dynamite and Urkel!  Remember to be creative when making your own costume.  This event is intended to be fun, and will be very entertaining to see what costumes the junior guards come up with.  Please note there will be a dress code that will be strictly enforced.  Junior Guards must be dressed in a minimum of shorts and shirts.  No scantily clad costumes or Speedos will be permitted.

Only junior guards have the privilege of attending this function.  Non-junior guards will not be admitted into the dance.

Our staff would appreciate it if you would please arrive on time to pick up your Junior Guard.  If you wish to pick up your Junior Guard early, please make arrangements to meet your child at the door at your agreed time.  Instructor security guards will assist in locating your child, if necessary.  If you have any questions, contact me at 375-5079.
