Dive Trip to Catalina Island

On Monday July 14th, July 21st, July 28th, and August 4th the Junior Guard Safety Aides and the “A” Groups will be going on a dive trip to Catalina Island.  There will be a limited number of spots for each trip so sign-ups will be on a first come, first serve basis.  We will try to accommodate each individual, but it will be necessary to sign up as soon as possible to ensure that you get on the trip of your choice.  Registration for all trips will begin at 7:30 AM at Junior Guard Headquarters on Monday, July 7th.  Each person is allowed to sign up for one trip only and you may only sign up for yourself.  If you fail to attend the trip you signed up for you will not be able to attend another trip.

Departure time will be at 7:00 A.M. from Berth 55, Pier C in Long Beach, so give yourself adequate time to get there.  Each guard going on the trip will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the landing.  The boat, Great Escape, will depart at 7:00 A.M.  Do not be late!  The boat will return at 6:00 P.M.

Equipment needed: mask, fins, and snorkel.  A wet suit and weight belt are not mandatory, but may make the trip more enjoyable.  If you need to borrow a wetsuit, you need to check it out with your instructor on Friday.  There will be a limited amount of masks and snorkels available, but if you want to ensure use of snorkeling equipment, bring your own.  You do not need to wear your junior guard uniform on this trip.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided on the boat.  The ship’s galley will also be open and serving food during the entire trip if you wish to purchase more snacks.

Directions to the boat dock

From Huntington Beach, head North on PCH to 2nd Street, turn left on 2nd Street.  Take 2nd Street through Belmont and merge to the left onto Ocean Blvd.  Take Ocean Blvd. and go through downtown Long Beach.  Stay in the right lane and just after the 710-freeway entrance you will take the Pico off ramp.  Turn right off Pico and you will take Pico through several stop signs.  On the left hand side you will see the Queen’s Wharf Restaurant.  The boat is located behind the restaurant.  Park in the lot and drop off the guards.  The phone number for the boat is (866) 348-3262.  The address for the boat is 555 N. Pico, Long Beach.

If you have any questions, please call Greg Luttrell or Kyley Morita at 375-5176.

Surf Trip Tower #24

On Tuesday, July 15th , the “A” Groups are participating in a surf trip at Tower #24.

All parents should plan to drop their Junior Guards off in the parking lot north of Goldenwest Street at Tower #24.  In order to avoid traffic parents should consider arriving early (15-30 minutes) to drop off their children.  Do not stop on PCH and drop your children off.  This has caused major traffic problems in the past.  Please pull into the parking lot as far as you can so that other parents can come in behind you.  Again, if you stop at the entrance other parents will not be able to enter the lot causing a jam and potential accidents.  Junior Guards will report for their regular schedules on this day (8:30-Noon or 1:00 - 4:30p.m.).

All guards should wear their uniform and bring a towel, a large snack and warm clothing.  The Junior Guard program will provide two drinks per child. They may also bring their surfboards, boogie boards and fins.  Please remind your child to wear sunscreen.

If you have any questions please call Junior Lifeguards at 375-5176.

Raging Waters

On Monday, August 11th the “A’s”, “Captains”, and “Safety Aide” groups will be going to Raging Waters in San Dimas.  All guards should report by 8:00 a.m. Busses will depart Junior Lifeguard Headquarters at 8:30 a.m. for San Dimas.  The busses will return at approximately 7:00 P.M. that same day, barring any unforeseen delays.

Guards should wear their uniform, bring a towel and have sufficient money to buy snacks for the day. A lunch consisting of hamburgers, fruit salad, chili and a dessert will be provided from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M., along with unlimited beverages throughout the day in our programs base area.  An important reminder: Raging Waters will not allow food to be brought into the park.  They will look in your bag and make you discard any food or water.  Please do not bring any food on this trip.

If you have any questions please call me at 375-5079.

San Onofre Surf Trip

On Thursday, August 14th, the Junior Guard A’s, Safety Aides, and Captains are participating in a surf trip to San Onofre (Camp Pendleton).  All Junior Guards will need to report at 7:30 A.M. at Junior Guard Headquarters.

All guards should bring a large sack lunch and warm clothing.  Junior Guards are not required to wear Junior Guard uniforms on this special surf day.  A few drinks will be provided, but bring enough food and drink to last throughout the day.  They may also bring their surfboards, boogie boards and fins.  We will load the boards onto a large truck and take down the equipment, but it is at your own risk.  If you are late you may not have your board loaded due to the limited amount of space.  Junior Guard surfboards will be available for checkout in 30-minute intervals.

The busses will return to Junior Guards at 4:30 P.M.

If you have any questions, please contact Greg Luttrell or Kyley Morita at 375-5176.
