2008 Junior Guard Graduation Ceremony

Dear Parents,

You are invited to attend the annual Junior Lifeguard 2008 Graduation Ceremony that will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the Huntington Beach Public Library/Huntington Central Park (7111 Talbert Ave., Huntington Beach. CA).  The library is located on the corner of Talbert Avenue and Golden West Street (between Golden West and Gothard Street) in Huntington Beach.  The Graduation will be behind the library in the outdoor concrete concert stage directly north of the library building.  Parking is available in the library parking lot areas inside the park.

We will be sitting in the large grass area around the stage.  Lawn chairs and/or blankets will make your experience more enjoyable and comfortable.  Remember to bring a jacket or sweater because sometimes the evenings can be quite cold this time of year.

All Junior Guards should be behind the concrete concert stage (bandstand) by 5:30 PM so they can get ready for the ceremony that begins at 6:00 PM.  The event will include the graduation ceremony followed by the world famous Mr. Eich Slideshow!

In addition to the graduation ceremony we will be serving taco dinners for $6.00 per person starting at 4:00 PM. (We encourage you to buy Pre-sale tickets, currently being sold, to insure that we purchase enough meals). We will also be conducting a raffle and silent auction. All the proceeds raised from these activities will go towards the new storage facility project.

The following will be a modified schedule for Thursday, August 21, 2008.

2008 Graduation Taco Dinner!

As the summer winds down, we are looking ahead towards our annual Junior Lifeguard Graduation Ceremony.  The Graduation Ceremony will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the Huntington Beach Public Library/Huntington Central Park (7111 Talbert Ave., Huntington Beach. CA).  The library is located on the corner of Talbert Avenue and Golden West Street (between Golden West and Gothard Street) in Huntington Beach.  The festivities will be behind the library in the outdoor concrete concert stage directly north of the library building.  Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, etc.  Dinner and Silent Auction will begin at 3:30 PM.  All Junior Guards are to be lined-up behind the stage at 5:30 PM.  Graduation will begin at 6:00 PM.

This has been a great summer and we have been successful in our initial efforts in raising funds toward the new storage facility.  We have achieved 30-40% of our $100,000 goal!  Our final effort will be held at Graduation where we will have taco dinners available, a silent auction and raffle prizes.

Graduation Dinner:  Presale tickets for taco plates will go on sale Monday, August 11th.  This will include your choice of (2) tacos (carne asada, carnitas or chicken), rice, beans, chips and a drink.  Please tear/cut off the bottom of this flyer and send it in with your check of $6.00 per ticket.  We will keep a master list which will be available the evening of graduation.  Ticket sales will end Wednesday, August 20th.

Raffle:  Our raffle items will include a Nintendo Wii, a Robert August surfboard, a Hamboard “fish” skate board, a Nerve bike, a week long stay in a condo near the beach in Maui, and a Cool Hut, etc.  Tickets can be purchased at the Junior Guard Headquarters and at Graduation.  Tickets are 25 for $20.  Winners need not be present to win.

Silent Auction:  We will have many exciting items available including a surfboard signed by the US Open Surfers, VIP 4th of July fireworks viewing party for 8 held at Junior Guard Headquarters, a 2009 Junior Guard Registration, as well as many more fun items and baskets.  We are still accepting donations.  If you would like to help, please contact Kelly Cason (714) 928-0605.  We thank you for your continued support and look forward to the excitement of our new storage facility!

Please fill out this form and return to HBJG headquarters!

Parking Pass Reminders

We at the Junior Lifeguards would like to remind you that the parking passes distributed at the beginning of the season are given to the Junior Guard program by the City Council for your convenience. This pass is not a part of the cost of the Junior Guard program and should not be considered as a purchase made by you. For this reason it is important that we not abuse these rules as that could jeopardize this benefit. This is a summer of transition. Our south parking lot is undergoing major renovations and will impact parking procedures. The following guidelines should be implemented to assure a safe and comfortable method of dropping off and picking up your Junior Guards.

1. All cars ENTER at Beach Boulevard.
2. All cars EXIT at Huntington Street.
3. No pickup/drop off on the other side of PCH.
4. Carpool/ride a bike/walk to the beach whenever possible. This will also save money and help the environment.
5. Older Junior Guards may be dropped off further away (Tower 11) and walk the rest of the way.
6. Be aware that the times between 11:45 A,M. and 1:15 P.M. will be the most impacted as these times mark the end of the AM session and the beginning of the PM session.
7. Remember that parking or stopping at a red curb is illegal and may result in a citation.

It is going to be another successful summer program that we all will enjoy. Thank you for your patience. Your continued flexibility and support will overcome this summer's inconvenience.
